30 € full service Civil Registry of any municipality Usual turnaround: 3-7 working days

What is the full birth certificate?

It is the official document issued by the Civil Registry that reproduces, in full, all the details of a person's birth registration: first name, surname(s), date, time and place of birth, parents' names, etc.

It is the digital equivalent of the family record book for people born from July 2021 onwards, when Spain rolled out its new electronic Civil Registry system. Without a physical family record book, this certificate is the document that proves birth and parentage.

What is it needed for?
  • · Applying for the Minimum Living Income (IMV)
  • · Social Security family benefit procedures
  • · Applying for scholarships and education grants
  • · Marriages and adoptions
  • · Immigration and nationality procedures
  • · Inheritances and wills
  • · Any procedure requiring proof of parentage
Difference between certificate types:
· Full certificate: exact copy of the original registration entry (the most complete). · Extract certificate: summary with the main details. The IMV and most Social Security procedures require the full certificate.
